FMLN Nominates 2009 Ticket
The major Salvadoran opposition party, FMLN (Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front), confirmed its presidential formula for elections in 2009.

Mauricio Funes, a journalist by profession, will represent the FMLN for president, with the group's historic leader Salvador Sanchez Ceren as his partner.

In an official note the FMLN explains the decision was made following consultation with the people, social sectors and party members.

FMLN leaders have highlighted the candidates' values, including their honesty, human sensitivity and capacity to assume the post, as well as the popular support they enjoy.

Funes is currently a TV Channel 15 talk show host described by many Salvadorians as a social communicator committed to truth, social justice and civil rights.
