Hostage held by Colombian rebels rescued near Venezuelan border
An entrepreneur allegedly held hostage by Colombia's Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) near the Venezuelan border has been rescued, Colombian officials said Friday

The hostage named Juan Carlos Bermudez was allegedly kidnapped by FARC at a carbon mine and taken to the Colombia-Venezuela border region, where specialist anti-kidnap troops fought with guerillas.

"They kidnapped him at a carbon mine and a special anti-kidnapping unit underwent the search and rescue mission," said Jorge Cardenas, police commander of Colombia's northeastern Santander province.

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has declared 2007 "the hostage rescue year at all cost."

FARC is Colombia's biggest guerrilla force which Uribe has vowed to eradicate before the end of his term in 2010.
