Arias Calls Fro Respect and Tolerance
This being the last weekend before the referendum vote on the Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC), both the "Si" and "No" groups have intensified their propaganda campaigns in all parts of the country.

Costa Ricans will be going to the voting booths next Sunday, October 7, to vote on the future of the free trade agreement with the United States known as CAFTA-DR.

Yesterday, Costa Rican president, Óscar Arias Sánchez, while touring Siquirres, Limón, made a call to all Costa Ricans for respect and tolerance.

Arias and his cabinet were in Siquirres to participate in the celebration of the 96th anniversary of the creation of the canton de Siquirres.

"On October 8, once the referendum has passed, we all have to be tolerant and respectful of foreign idea", said Arias.

"On October 8 we will turn the page, finally, on the discussion of the TLC with the United States", Arias added.

The president told the audience that no matter what the outcome is on the TLC, he and his government will move ahead with reaching trade deals with the European Union and China.

The ceremonines began at 10:00am in the garden of the old Catholic chuch and only those who said they supported the TLC were allowed in. The opposed where left outside only to their chants to be heard.

During the visit, Arias took the opportunity to visit the local Centro Turístico Las Tilapias and see the show put on by Gilberto Shemen, known as "Chito" and his crocodile "Pocho".

The president then continued his tour of Limón province with stops in Matina and the port city.
