Colombia Regional
Hotspot, Correa
Colombia is the largest
center of instability in
Latin America and
jeopardizes all of us,
said Ecuador President
Rafael Correa in an
interview with the
Spanish daily Publico.
When asked about recent
tensions between Quito
and Bogota, he said the
latter's President Uribe
has always lacked
respect for Ecuador.
"His government has been
totally discredited
after we exposed their
lies," he said.
Correa is planning a
tour to Europe to
further his country's
"decency and peaceful
nature," and says he
will show how Ecuador
was a "victim of an
internal Colombian
conflict."
He said that country has
been "defeated in Latin
America politically,
diplomatically and in
the media," and that it
has a "militaristic
government and President
with a shady past, vast
support from
extra-regional
intelligence and an
impressive propaganda
apparatus."
Correa said Uribe does
not want peace because
he uses the volatile
guerrilla struggle to
get votes, but the
former said "there is no
blood on my hands, which
Uribe cannot say," and
that Bogota's aggression
with the guerrilla issue
could kill thousands.
He reminded that Uribe
doesn't even want the
detainees released
because one of them,
Ingrid Betancourt, is a
potential candidate
against him. |
