Honduras Rally Supports
ALBA
TEGUCIGALPA - The
"Bloque Popular" party,
drawing together over 50
organizations, is
readying Thursday for a
rally to support
Honduras' entry to the
Bolivarian Alternative
for the Peoples of Our
America (ALBA).
The demonstration will
depart from the locality
of Comayaguela, in the
metropolitan area of
this capital, and end in
the Government Palace,
where President Manuel
Zelaya expects to ink
August 25 the entrance
to that initiative.
Unlike neoliberal models
that deepen structural
asymmetries, the ALBA
seeks to compensate
differences and
eliminate poverty and
exclusion, the entity
states.
Hundreds of unionists,
students, farmers,
political leaders, women
and representatives from
other sectors will
support this mechanism
of cooperation emerged
in 2004.
"We back the
government's decision
because we know that
with that treaty we are
going to have access to
credits for the
production of foods,"
rural leader Agustin
Ramos told Prensa
Latina.
Meanwhile, Deputy Doris
Gutierrez said that the
ALBA benefits the
peoples over
transnational companies,
unlike the United States
free trade agreements.
Delegations from all
ALBA member countries:
Cuba, Bolivia, Dominica
and Nicaragua have been
invited to the entrance
ceremony. |
