Rodriguez
Loses His Freedom
Again
Legal troubles for
former president, Miguel
Ángel Rodríguez
(1998-2002) never seem
to end, as the Juzgado
Penal de Hacienda del
Segundo Circuito
Judicial, has ordered
preventive measures
against the former
president for his
alleged role in
kickbacks received from
British insurer, PWS.
On Thursday, all
preventive measures
against Rodríguez were
lifted in the
ICE-Alcatel case after a
court rejected the
appeal from the Fiscalia
in that case.
However, by Friday
afternoon, the former
president again cannot
leave the country, has
to hand in his passport
to the court, sign in
every 15 days and
maintain a permanent
residence while the
Ministerio Público
continues its
investigation.
Rodríguez is being
accused - not charged -
of receiving us$706.135
dollars from PWS, a
re-insurer for the state
insurance agency,
Insituto Nacional de
Seguros (INS).
The preventive measures
expire on December 2,
2009. |
