53% Have Yet To Pay The
2009 Marchamo Due Dec.
31
If you have still to pay
your 2009 Marchamo you
are part of the 53% that
have to do so, according
to figures released
Tuesday afternoon by the
Instituto Nacional de
Seguros (INS).
The INS reports that so
far only 480.783
marchamos of the a
little over a million to
be paid this year,
representing a revenue
of 55 billion colones
for the state
institution.
Of course the INS does
not get to keep all of
that, it is only a
collector for other
institutions like
Hacienda (property and
sales tax), fines for
the MOPT and "timbres"
for various other
institutions, ie like
municipalities, fauna
silvestre.
The 2009 Marchamo is
payable by December 31,
2008, after which
drivers are exposed to
fines and owners of the
vehicles may have to
recover their property
from the Tránsito pound,
though Tránsito
officials will only in
rare cases confiscate a
vehicle solely for the
non-payment of the
Marchamo.
Payment can be made at
any INS authorized
insurance agency and at
all state and private
banks. Some financial
institutions are giving
customers a bonus for
paying their Machamo
with them, like the
Scotiabank which will
deposit 10% of the
Marchamo to its
customers bank accounts
as a rebate. The state
bank, Banco de Costa
Rica, will deliver the
marchamo to your home or
office if you pay it
online. Other banks have
similar offerings. Shop
around.
