Bulls In Full Action
Today; Tope
Tomorrow
At 2pm today the bulls
at Zapote take to the
ring as the Zapote Fair
gets underway.
Organizers say the
expect some 100.000
people to visit the fair
grounds this year,.
The Zapote Fair is the
first and the largest of
a series of fairs around
the country over the
coming months.
Communities like
Palmares, San Ramon and
Puntarenas all have
their fairs, with
distinct local flavour.
The "Toros a la Tica"
are the staple at all
fairs. At Zapote
the running of the bulls
are held several times a
day and televised. This
year the activities can
be followed on the world
wide web, where amateurs
enter the ring to taunt
the bull and then run
like hell to avoid being
hit by the sharp, point
horns of a mad bull.
As part of the annual
festivities, some 4.000
horses will take to
downtown San Jose
tomorrow as part of the
"Tope Nacional".
Paseo Colon and Avenida
Segunda will be filled
with horses and their
riders, followed by a
clean up crew, as the
traditional horse parade
takes place.
Following the Tope was
the traditional "Caranaval",
which has been cancelled
by the municipality for
the third consecutive
year. |
