Authorities displayed their show of force in the areas beach areas of Tamarindo, Playas del Coco, Carillo and Santa Cruz, between Friday night and Sunday morning, as they descended on the Pacific coast towns against criminal activity.

The police operation included some 200 officers of the Fuerza Pública, immigration service, drug enforcement and other police agencies, in search of illegals, drugs and wanted criminals.

During the police action, 77 undocumented foreigners were in the hands of the Policía de Migración, which could be deported this week.

In Fidelfia, a man with tattoos similar to ones used by the criminal gang "Mara Salvatrucha" of El Salvador, was detained and is being investigated for ties to the criminal gang. Earlier this week, immigration police deported a man, also detained near Filadelfia, with proven ties to Las Maras.

In addition to the illegals, police confiscated a quantity of drugs - cocaine, crack and marijuana - and held seven people for possession and trafficking.

Authorities also confiscated five firearms, including a shotgun, believed to be stolen last week when two police officers in Tamarindo were assaulted by criminals and their weapons stolen.

The police operation also discovered to bunkers were some 120 Nicaraguan workers lived in the poorest of conditions, which is now in the hands of the ministerios de Trabajo and Salud (Labour and Health ministries).
