Vehicular Restrictions Passed The Grade
The vehicular restrictions of San José passed the grade yesterday, the day when children where back to school and everyone back to work after the two week mid year school break.

The last two Mondays since the all day restrictions went into effect where light traffic days as a large number of people were taking advantage of the school break vacation.

So, yesterday, was the real big test for the expanded restriction, and according to transport officials, the restrictions are working.

Traffic was lighter than expected yesterday.

The director de Tránsito, Germán Marín, siezed the moment by saying that the vehicular restrictions of San José, that includes the La Uruca radial, the Circunvalación and the downtown core, is being effective in reducing congestion.

Although some drivers continue to flaunt the restrictions that are in effect from 6am to 7pm weekdays, depending on the last number of the license plate: 1 & 2 on Mondays, 3 & 4 on Tuesdays, 5 & 6 on Wednesdays, 7 & 8 on Thursdays and 9 & 0 on Fridays.

The all day restriction applies only to passenger and light commerical vehicles. Heavy commercial vehicles are restricted only during mornings 6am and 8:30am and afternoons 4:30om and 7pm. As well heavy commercial vehicles are restriced on the major autopistas leading to and from San José.

All public transport vehicles like buses and taxis, as well as motorcycles and scooters and emergency vehicles are excluded from the restrictions.

Yesterday, between 6am and 9am, Tránsitos report fining 153 vehicles for violating the restrictions.
