Vehicular Restrictions
Passed The Grade
The vehicular
restrictions of San José
passed the grade
yesterday, the day when
children where back to
school and everyone back
to work after the two
week mid year school
break.
The last two Mondays
since the all day
restrictions went into
effect where light
traffic days as a large
number of people were
taking advantage of the
school break vacation.
So, yesterday, was the
real big test for the
expanded restriction,
and according to
transport officials, the
restrictions are
working.
Traffic was lighter than
expected yesterday.
The director de Tránsito,
Germán Marín, siezed the
moment by saying that
the vehicular
restrictions of San
José, that includes the
La Uruca radial, the
Circunvalación and the
downtown core, is being
effective in reducing
congestion.
Although some drivers
continue to flaunt the
restrictions that are in
effect from 6am to 7pm
weekdays, depending on
the last number of the
license plate: 1 & 2 on
Mondays, 3 & 4 on
Tuesdays, 5 & 6 on
Wednesdays, 7 & 8 on
Thursdays and 9 & 0 on
Fridays.
The all day restriction
applies only to
passenger and light
commerical vehicles.
Heavy commercial
vehicles are restricted
only during mornings 6am
and 8:30am and
afternoons 4:30om and
7pm. As well heavy
commercial vehicles are
restriced on the major
autopistas leading to
and from San José.
All public transport
vehicles like buses and
taxis, as well as
motorcycles and scooters
and emergency vehicles
are excluded from the
restrictions.
Yesterday, between 6am
and 9am, Tránsitos
report fining 153
vehicles for violating
the restrictions. |
