1.000 Tickets in First
Day of Expanded
Vehicular Restriction
In its first day of the
expanded vehicular
restrictions of San José
the Policía de Tránsito
report issuing some
1.000 tickets to drivers
who decided to ignore
the media campaign and
took their chances. We
can only imagine many
more got away with it.
One thing was for sure,
however, traffic was
much lighter in many
parts of the city during
both morning and
afternoon rush hours.
For instance, the normal
traffic build up from
Escazú east of the toll
booths was much lighter
at 8:00am, the traffic
around the San Pablo II
bridge that leads to
Heredia was a breeze to
transit and the
Circunvalación near the
Escazú and Hatillos was
traffic jam free.
Similar reports were for
the San Pedro area and
other parts of San José.
The restrictions today
continue to vehicles
with license plates
ending in 9 and 0 during
the morning hours of 6am
and 8:30am and 4:30pm
and 7pm.
Confusion on the
boundaries of the
restriction was
expected. The boundaries
are yet to be marked
with signs, but included
everything west, south
and east of the
Circunvalación, south of
the La Uruca, Tibás and
Calle Blancos. Vehicles
can trasit the
Cirncunvalación and the
La Uruca radial, they
cannot get off to enter
San José, where waitin
Tránsito officials are
waiting with their
ticket pad in hand.
The fine for violating
the restricioin is
¢5.000 colones.
The only vehicles that
are restricted are
buses, taxis,
motorcycles and
scooters, handicapped
vehicles and of course
emergency vehicles, like
police, fire and
ambulance. |
