Rainy Season Expected
Official This Week
Hot sunny mornings will
give way to cloudy and
wet afternoons as the
"rainy" season
officially arrives in
the Central Valley this
week. After all, we are
in May, and the season
is a couple of weeks
later than predicted by
the national weather
service, though a week
of the traditional
mid-May start.
Meteorologist Evelyn
Quirós said that all the
conditions are present
for the rainy season to
be officially with us,
that will bring heavy
rain and electrical
discharges.
At the end of last week,
some areas of the
Central Valley,
particularly the western
areas, were inundated
with heavy rain and
thunderstorms, while
other areas remained
sunny and hot all day.
The Instituto
Meteorológico Nacional (IMN)
has said that the rainy
season was going to come
early, as early as the
first half of April -
one month ahead of
schedule due to the
effects of La Niña.
The areas of Guanacaste
and the Caribbean will
continue to enjoy the
"dry" season for a few
weeks more. The rainy
season is expected to
hit the area by the end
of the month.
