News Drivers License
Will Indicate Blood Type
and Organ Donation
Beginning later this
month drivers obtaining
a drivers license for
the first time or
renewal will have to
indicate their blood
type, backed up by a
laboratory test, and
indicate if they want to
be an organ donor in the
case of a death in a
traffic accident.
The information will be
required to complete the
medical exam portion
before requesting the
drivers license.
Karla González, ministra
de Obras Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT) said
that the information
will be printed on the
drivers license itself
to be used by emergency
crews responding to an
emergency where the
patient requires blood
and/or a transfusion.
The move, according to
the transport minister,
is to save precious
moments wasted in the
event of a emergency to
find out the patient's
blood type.
The MOPT official press
release said that a
person wants to donate
their organ in the event
of a death in a traffic
accident, they can do so
by indicating it at the
time of obtaining their
drivers license or
renewal and the process
will eliminate the time
to wait for the family's
approval.
For his part, Germán
Marín, director of the
Policía de Tránsito,
assures that the idea
will save lives.
Viviana Martín, vice
president of Transportes,
added that drivers can
have their licenses
updated to the news one
with the donor and blood
type at any time and do
not have to wait for
renewal. |
