Gas Prices Go Up At
Midnight
Best to fill the gas
tank today because at
the stroke of midnight
gasoline prices take
another hike upwards,
hitting ¢621 colones for
a litre of super, ¢604
for regular and ¢587 for
diesel.
What the increase means
is an additional ¢900
colones to fill a 45
litre tank with super.
Altough in less than 24
hours the price of
gasoline spirals,
another is on the way
that will raise the
prices another ¢36
colones for a litre of
super, ¢40 for regular
and ¢36 for diesel.
Recope, the Refinadora
Costarricesense de
Petroleo - state refiner
and distributor - made
an application of the
increase on May 9 and is
waiting approval by the
Autoridad Reguladora de
los Servicios Públicos (Aresep),
which approval is
expected for the first
week in June.
The rise in prices is
being blamed on the cost
of crude oil on
international markets
which earlier this week
topped us$126 dollars a
barrel.
Tomorrow's price is just
below the ¢627 price for
a litre of super
recorded last September,
dropping to ¢543 three
weeks later.
