Venezuela: Majority Support for Chavez
Caracas - Director of the Social Research Group (GIS 21) pollster, former Finance Minister Nelson Merentes, said on Monday that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is drawing over 70 percent support from the people.

He told national television that the survey, carried out September 29-October 6, involved over 1,000 people, mainly in the states of Miranda and the Capital District.

Regarding the coming regional elections for governors and mayors, the poll showed that the people's main concerns include unsafety, garbage collection, highway administration and basic services.

Merentes urged party organizations to promote people's mobilization to the polls, as it will be a deciding factor to settle widespread political polarization.
