Brazil: Lula Reasserts
Support to Cuba
Brasilia -
Brazilian President Luiz
Inacio Lula da Silva
reiterated Monday Brazil
supports the
reconstruction of Cuba
after damages left by
hurricanes Gustav and
Ike.
In his radio program
called “Coffee with the
President”, broadcast
every Monday in
Brasilia, by Radio
Brasil, Lula talked
about the international
financial crisis, the
great governmental
investments and his
recent trip to Cuba.
When he commented this
topic, he highlighted
the way in which Cubans
work, with an enormous
sacrifice, to overcome
the blockade imposed by
the US.
He reminded Gustav and
Ike left more than
470,000 homes without a
roof and thousands of
miles of transmission
lines completely damaged
and destroyed.
He assured that the
government of Brazil
wants to support Cuba on
its reconstruction.
He also said that he
went to Cuba for an
agreement between
Brazilian firm PETROBRAS
and the Cuban national
oil enterprise, and the
opening of an office of
the Agency for Export
Promotion of Brazil
(APEX).
He said this step will
make more Brazilian
entrepreneurs visit
Cuba, and there could be
more possibility for
businesses between both
countries.
Lula remembered that the
Brazilian Enterprise for
Agricultural
Investigations (EMBRAPA)
is helping for Cuba to
become a self-sufficient
country on soy
cultivation and
production. |
