Finally A Gasoline Price Drop We
Can Begin To Live With
The price drop in
gasoline prices that
will take effect the
first week in December
is much higher that
anticipated. Even though
the state refinery had
requested a lower drop,
the Autoridad Reguladora
de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep)
decided that a drop of
¢204 colones for a
litre of super, ¢197 for
regular and ¢90 for
diesel was warranted.
The Refinadora
Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope),
during its monthly
request, asked a drop of
¢185 colones for a
litre of super, ¢178 for
regular and ¢116 for
diesel.
However, the Aresep
approved a new
calculation method
allowing the higher drop
in prices of regular and
super gasolines.
This will be the first
major drop in gasoline
prices since the price
of crude on
international market too
a nose dive months back.
The new prices at the
pump in December will be
¢483 colones for a litre
of super (today it is
¢687); ¢468 for regular,
down from today's price
of ¢665; and diesel will
drop to ¢519 from ¢609.
José León Desanti,
president Recope, hopes
that international
market prices stabilize
and there is no need to
increase fuel prices to
the high levels of this
year.
The difference in the
calculation method now
takes into account
changes in international
prices every 15 days
instead of the 30 day
method used up to now,
which mean that the
prices at pumps did not
reflect the price drop
during the past month.
