Government To Shut Down December 19 For Holidays
The ministro de la Presidencia, Rodrigo Arias, announced yesterday holiday closures for government offices and agencies.

During a cabinet meeting, Arias said that all central government employees, offices and agencies will be closed between December 19, 2008 and January 5, 2009.

Arias was quick to point out that the holiday vacation period is only for 8 days, not counting statutory holidays (December 25 and January 1) and weekends, when government workers and offices are closed.

Arias added that the Fuerza Pública (police), Policía del Tránsito (traffic police) and medical staff of th Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) hospitals and clinics are not affected by the holiday schedule and will be in full force.

Autonomous state agencies like ICE, INS and AyA, for instance have their own holiday schedule, which is yet to be announced.
