Banco Negro Becomes Banco Gris
No need to change the address on your agenda or address book for the Banco de costa Rica main offices in downtown San José are well know to one and all.

The change, if you feel the need to, is due to the fact that the well known building on Avenida Segunda, known as the "Banco Negro" will soon be the "Banco Gris", as workers continue work on the cosmetic face of the structure.

In reality the building has never been black, but rather a dark green.

The BCR decided to replace the more than 40 year old dark green granite tiles on the face of the building.

BCR's Miguel Arguedas explained that the tiles were becoming a hazard and could have possibly fallen on someone or a vehicle at any time, thus the bank decided to replace all 5.000 tiles at a cost of ˘145 million colones.

Editor's note: The are no conventional street addresses in Costa Rica, only points of reference.
