Gas Prices and Train
Fares Going Down, Water
Increasing
Finally gasoline prices
start coming down, as
the Autoridad Reguladora
de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep)
approved a reduction in
the prices of fuels of
¢76 colones per litre of
diesel, ¢14 for super
and ¢13 for Plus91
(regular).
The prices at the pumps
will be ¢722 for a litre
of super, ¢708 for Plus
91, and ¢650 for diesel.
The current gasoline
prices are ¢736, ¢721
and ¢726, respectively.
Natural gas is also
coming down in prices,
as the Aresep approved a
17% price reduction,
which in real terms will
mean a reduction of
¢1.680 to ¢8.400 colones
for a cylinder of
natural gas that is
primarily used in
kitchens around the
country.
The price reductions
will also affect the
urban train that runs
between the Universidad
Latina and the Estación
del Pacífico, and the
Estación del Pacífico to
Metrópoli III (Pavas),
as the Aresep decided to
drop the fare on the
commuter train from the
current ¢400 colones to
¢200.
However it was not all
good news at the Aresep
yesterday.
The regulating authority
approved a hike in the
price of water and sewer
services, giving the
Instituto Costarricense
de Acueductos y
Alcantarillados (AyA) a
26.6% rate hike,
depending on
consumption. The rate
will be applied to all
2008 and 2009 utility
bills, while in 2010 the
AyA can increase rates
by only 8.11% and 7.4%
in 2011.
The new prices will take
effect on October 13. |
