Public Transport Bus To
Stop Only At Authorized Stops
Public transport buses
must end the practice of
making stops to take on
or let off passengers at
other than authorized
bus stops by the Consejo
de Transporte Público
(CTP). That is the word
from the Sala
Constitucional
(Constitutional Court)
following a hearing of "recurso
de amparo", by two Costa
Ricans who were fed up
with buses stopping in
front of their houses.
A man and a woman,
identified only their
last names, Arroyo
Solera and Álvarez
Alfaro, presented their
arguments before the
Constitutional Court
against the ministerio
de Obras Públicas y
Transportes.
Solera and Alfaro said
in their appeal that the
buses of providing
service to Villa Bonita
de San Antonio del Tejar
de Alajuela kept making
unauthorized stops in
front of their homes and
causing noise and air
pollution.
It is a common practice
by public transport
buses to stop just about
anywhere, and at any
time, to take on or let
off passengers, even on
the busiest highway in
Costa Rica, the
autopista General Cañas
and other major routes.
The justices of the
Constitutional Court
ordered the MOPT to
ensure that buses only
stop at authorized stops
and take the necessary
steps that public
transport bus drives
comply with the court
order.
