Peru Braces for New Protests
LIMA - A left-wind Front made up of social and political organizations, confirmed a national day of protest Tuesday while the government began to mobilize the armed forces.

The President of the General Workers Confederation (CGTP) Mario Huaman said the day will demand a new turn in the economic neoliberal policy in forced in Peru since 1992 as well as the social policy and the government's ethics.

He emphasized the day will entail dissatisfaction marches in Lima and other cities as well as general strikes in regions like Arequipa, Cusco and Ica in the south and that from the Amazon.

He warned that people's organizations will use more drastic measures if the government does not meet their demands and recalled its increasing disapproval proved by different polls.

The executive predicted the failure of the protest and Prime Minister Jorge del Castillo said that he is not worry about the National strike called by CGTP and in this sense it accused the government of trying to confuse the citizens since there is not any call for National Strike.

Huaman said the executive is the main destabilizing force since it does not fulfill its promises and commitments; it does not comply with social demands and demands for talks.

Meanwhile, the government was criticized for ordering the armed forces to back the police keeping the order Tuesday what includes previous and subsequent actions of soldiers.

Instead of talks the government responded to the social demands with repression, commented Huaman who considered the attitude dictatorial.
