CARACAS - Venezuelan
electoral authorities
will be able to access
accounts of political
parties in the South
American country, around
20 days ahead of the
official start of the
propaganda campaigns for
regional elections.
The electoral authority
has planned to control
directly the income and
expenditure of the
political groups that
are related to the
funding of the electoral
campaign.
Humberto Castillo,
member of the National
Electoral Committee said
that it has been planned
that the parties hand in
data from their books,
which will have to show
their movements to cover
the costs of campaign.
The information about
our financial movement
in banks and books will
be verified against the
actual facts, Castillo
explained, quoted by
Zulia's Panorama daily.
Rector German Yepez
recently recalled that
the CNE (National
Electoral Council)
currently lacks the
necessary funds to
finance the parties, and
expects a financial
certificate from the AN
(National Assembly).
Yepez said that after a
thorough analysis of the
needs, a request of 725
million bolivars ($337.2
million).
The CNE will announce on
September 8 the
preliminary list of
those accepted in the
Electoral Register, who
will be able to
participate in the
electoral period of
November 23, for mayors,
governors and city
councils.
