Poas Volcano: A Unique Site
The colour, high temperature and extremely high concentration of chemicals such as sulfur, silica, and other metals, mostly toxic, make of the lake in the crater of active Poas Volcano a unique site in the Earth.

Over 225,000 tourists visit the site every year attest to the scenic beauty of the national park.

Also, tens of researchers visit the crater in an effort to decode the secrets of the hot and hyper-acid lake.

The lake has a diameter of 300 meters (328 yards), and 45 metres (some 147 feet) deep.

Also, it is in one of the world’s largest craters, its diameter is 1,320 metres (1,440 yards).
