Hiring Expectations In
Costa Rica With A
Positive Outlook
A report based on the
Manpower Employment
Outlook Survey said that
a majority of employers
worldwide expect to ease
hiring levels in the
fourth quarter from the
preceding quarter. On a
yearly basis too, the
outlook of hiring for a
majority of countries
remains weaker compared
to the previous year.
In the American
countries, while the
outlook for the fourth
quarter remains
positive, compared on a
yearly basis, the pace
of hiring in the fourth
quarter in most of these
countries is expected to
slow from the previous
year.
The employment outlook
is the highest in
Colombia sequentially,
with employers in Costa
Rica and Peru also
having a positive
outlook for the fourth
quarter. However,
outlook is the weakest
in Guatemala and in the
US. The outlook for the
US is the weakest in
five years. Hiring
expectations moderated
in Mexico and Canada.
On a yearly basis, while
employers in Peru and
Argentina are expecting
a decline in hiring
levels, those in Canada
and Costa Rica indicated
improved hiring plans.
In the Asia Pacific
region, hiring plans
remain positive but are
lower than in the third
quarter. On a yearly
basis too, expectations
are weaker compared to
the previous period.
While New Zealand, Japan
and China's expectation
for hiring is lower,
hiring plans in Taiwan
and India is expected to
be robust in the fourth
quarter. In New Zealand,
the expectations are the
weakest since the second
quarter of 2004.
Within the service
sector, hiring plans are
lower compared to
previous year, with a
fall in confidence
levels affecting labor
markets in these
countries.
Among the EMEA
countries, while on a
quarterly basis
forecasts improved or
remained stable for the
fourth quarter, they
remain a bit weaker
compared to last year.
Romanian employers are
the most optimistic
about hiring plans,
while negative hiring
plans are witnessed in
Spain Ireland and Italy.
Hiring expectations in
Spain is the weakest
since the survey began
in 2003, while in the UK
the hiring outlook is
the lowest in almost 14
years.
