Looking For Rate Hikes
In total 14 hearings
have been scheduled for
this month by the
Autoridad Reguladora de
los Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
to update rates for
services like buses,
taxis, trains and the
mail.
The tranportation sector
is looking for
"important" increases in
rates as they face the
continuing high cost of
fuel.
Today the Aresep will
hear from
Autotransportes Mario
Rojas e Hijos who is
looking for a 72% fare
hike on the San Ramón –
Zarcero bus route.
In San Isidro del
General, the company
Autotransportes Mapyhela
is asking for an 85%
hike in the El General-
Pacuar- Las Brisas
route, while operators
of the San José -
Dominical route are
asking only for a 46%
hike.
Taxi operators want a
20% increase in taxi
fares, pushing the first
kilometre from ¢420 to
¢505 and the additional
kilometres from ¢380 to
¢455.
The train service - a
public institution - is
also looking for
increases on its Urban
train service that runs
from Pavas to San Pedro.
Incofer wants to
increase charge ¢395
colones for the service
that now costs only ¢300
colones.
The Correos de Costa
Rica (Costa Rica mail
service) is also looking
for a hike of ¢7 colones
in the rates for mail
weighing less that 1 kg.
