Bus, Taxi, Train and Mail Services All Looking For Rate Hikes
In total 14 hearings have been scheduled for this month by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) to update rates for services like buses, taxis, trains and the mail.

The tranportation sector is looking for "important" increases in rates as they face the continuing high cost of fuel.

Today the Aresep will hear from Autotransportes Mario Rojas e Hijos who is looking for a 72% fare hike on the San Ramón – Zarcero bus route.

In San Isidro del General, the company Autotransportes Mapyhela is asking for an 85% hike in the El General- Pacuar- Las Brisas route, while operators of the San José - Dominical route are asking only for a 46% hike.

Taxi operators want a 20% increase in taxi fares, pushing the first kilometre from ¢420 to ¢505 and the additional kilometres from ¢380 to ¢455.

The train service - a public institution - is also looking for increases on its Urban train service that runs from Pavas to San Pedro. Incofer wants to increase charge ¢395 colones for the service that now costs only ¢300 colones.

The Correos de Costa Rica (Costa Rica mail service) is also looking for a hike of ¢7 colones in the rates for mail weighing less that 1 kg.
