The Guatemala Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA) has recieved the lowest budget allocations of all sectors.

The Finance Ministry, via its web page Fiscal Transparence, says the MAGA received only 8.49 percent of the budget promised for this year.

The MAGA 2009 Fiscal budget is $103 million of the $6.1 billion national budget, the second consecutive year in which the MAGA gets the lowest slice, followed by Communications (14.13 per cent), Education (14.97) and Economics (22.31).

Siglo Veintiuno daily said Friday quoting analyst Zully Morales that regular change of authorities has also weakened the MAGA execution powers.

Since President Alvaro Colom appointed a minister on January 14, 2008 there have been another two MAGA ministers.
