The demand for fuel has dropped considerably
as Costa Rica are buying and burning less
than last year, according to the state
refinery, Refinadora Costarricense de
Petroleo (Recope).
Recope says that consumption of fuels
dropped 6.28% in January and 14% in February
and demand for the first quarter of 2009 was
down 15.13% overall when compared to the
same period in 2008.
Recope says that consumption for the first
quarter of 2009 was down to 4.2 million
barrels, compared to 4.9 million for the
first quarter in 2008.
The single largest drop in consumption was
in diesel fuel used for the generation of
electricity, which fell drastically in March
2009 as compared to March 2008.
Fuels used by ships and aircraft also
declined, according to Recope, although
demand for super gasoline rose 5.9% last
month when compared to March 2009.
