Insecurity Causes Milk Shortage in Alajuelita

The residents of the community of Alajuelita, on the south side of San Jose, are the paying the price of insecurity, as the violent acts carried out in the community have led the Cooperativa Dos Pinos to suspend all deliveries to the area since April 7.

Dos Pinos is the main provider of milk and daily products in the country.

The decision by the company came after one of its delivery trucks was held up by criminals, an incident that resulted in two deaths, one of which was a company employee, the other, one of the criminals.

Dos Pino officials said the deliveries will resume when the company feels there is no longer a risk.

Alajuelita mayor, Tomás Poblador, said he will meet with officials of the Fuerza Pública (police) to provide an escort to the Dos Pinos delivery trucks in the area.

"We are paying for the sins of the sinners", said one resident of the area, who complained about the price of milk being increased by 50 colones or more in some places due to the shortage.
