Costa Rica To Get 400.000 Doses Of The AH1N1
Vaccine In Two Weeks
The first shipment of the AH1N1 vaccine will
be in Costa Rica on December 15, said the
ministra de Salud, María Luisa Ávila, who
promised that the vaccines will be available
within five days after their arrival.
In addition, the ministra said she was
pleased at the decision to double Costa
Rica's allotment to 400.000, rather than the
200.000 that had been announced.
The increased number of doses will mean
that, in addition to medical staff, pregnant
women with more than 6 months gestation,
will be included in the high risk group,
that includes the asthmatic and obese.
Costa Rica has asked for 1.9 million doses,
however it will be receiving only 950.000
from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Ministra Avila explained that the first
doses are coming from the French
pharmaceutical, Sanofi Pasteur and that
200.000 will be in Costa Rica in December
and another 200.000 in February.
Costa Rica has recorded 40 deaths from the
AH1N1.
