Arias To End Term with Low Popularity
With only months before the end of his term,
Costa Rican President Oscar Arias will end
his presidential term with a low popularity,
as his acceptance indexes dropped by 5
percent during November, as revealed by the
latest poll published Wednesday.
The poll said that Arias' popularity went
down to 22% while the belief that most of
the public officials are corrupted,
increased up to three percentage points.
The poll pointed out that the opinion that
the current Costa Rican government gives
privileges to some sectors and forgets most
of the Costa Rican population went up 11
percentage points, from 68% to 79% in
November.
In September, 17% of the population
evaluated Arias' presidential step as bad,
or very bad.
It also revealed the trust of the population
in the current administration has
considerably fallen down.
The poll was made by UNIMER for the Spanish
language daily, La Naciób.
The firm also published on Tuesday another
poll result expressing the fall of 20% on
the vote intention for presidential
candidate Laura Chinchilla, who is seen by
Costa Ricans as an Arias candidate.
On February 7, 2010, Costa Ricans will
elect the new President, two Vice
Presidents, 57 members of the Congress and
the 495 members of the municipal councils. |
