US Embassy In San José Working Double Shifts To Process Visa Applications

The US Embassy in San José announced that it will interview visa applicants in the mornings and afternoons, with a maximum number of interviews daily of 540 until Christmas.

The move is reduce the waiting period for those waiting a visa interview, which is now about 8 days from application to interview.

According to the Embassy last month a total of 5.533 Costa Ricans were interviewed for a visa to the US, of which 4.345 or 78% were authorized.

Embassy officials are asking those who are planning on travel to the US after Christmas not to make an appointment in January when the number of visa applications is less, meaning less waiting time.

To make an appointment and to receive information on what to bring to the visa interview, please contact our Call Center at: 0-800-052-1465 Monday thru Friday from 8-6PM. There is a $14 fee for this call.

To make a visa appointment, required is a valid credit card through the call centre (VISA or Mastercard) or a Personal Information Number (PIN) purchased at any branch of Banco Nacional in Costa Rica.

Applicants may use the PIN to call multiple times for information and appointment scheduling, up to a total of 8 minutes of service. Applicants can schedule appointments for up to five immediate family members with a single PIN.
