Teletón Breaks Record
The 2009 edition of the "teletón" this
weekend raised some ¢457 million colones
after 28 hours of live coverage on local
television that will benefit the Hospital Nacional de los Niños (Children's Hospital).
The goal had been ¢500 million, which may
still be a possibility when all the
donations by various social groups, like the
boy scouts, are counted.
Although short of the goal, the amount
raised broke last year's record.
On hand were a number of national and
international artists to entertain the
crowds who were on hand at the Palacio de
los Deportes in Heredia and on television.
Performers included Maribel Guardia and Tush
from Mexico, along with the Simba Muscial
and young talent giving tribute to Michael
Jackson.
