Chavez Demands Obama
Terrorist Extradition
Caracas - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez reiterated Friday to the
United States the extradition request of terrorist Luis Posada
Carriles and former President Carlos Andres Perez, who provoked
bloody scenes in the so-called Caracazo.
Chavez stated that US President Barack Obama must deliver Posada
Carriles, fugitive from the Venezuelan justice and responsible for
the explosion in mid air of a Cuban airplane in 1976 that killed 73
people.
In a phone call to a TV program, the statesman advocated for the
delivery of former President Carlos Andres Perez, also protected by
the United States, despite having pending accounts with the
Venezuelan justice.
Chavez recalled the repression sparked off in Venezuela on March 27,
1989, when the people starred in the rebellion denominated El
Caracazo, faced with economic measures taken by former President
Perez.
One month before El Caracazo, those responsible for the situation
have not still responded in a court of law, like the case of the
former president.
According to his opinion, the February 27, 1989 actions precipitated
the February 4, 1992 civic-military uprising, led by a group of
officials and soldiers convinced of the need of changes in the
country.
The Venezuelan head of State also demanded the US government to
rectify a report by the Department of State, accusing Venezuela and
other countries of violating human rights. |
