Argentina Summons U.S.
Ambassador Over CIA Chief's Remarks on Economy
Buenos Aires - Argentine Foreign
Minister Jorge Taiana on Friday met with U.S. Ambassador Anthony
Earl Wayne to discuss the recent impasse between the two countries.
Taiana asked Wayne to explain remarks by CIA Director Leon Panetta
that the global economic crisis could destabilize some Latin
American governments.
A spokesmen for the Argentine Foreign Ministry said the meeting
between Taiana and Wayne was conducted in a good atmosphere.
On Thursday, Taiana said Panetta's remarks were an "unacceptable
interference in internal issues" of Argentine and "irresponsible,
unfounded and disrespectful."
Panetta said on Wednesday that Venezuela, along with Argentina and
Ecuador could be destabilized by the global financial crisis.
