Bull Competition To
Headline Zapote Tonight
Zapote Fair goers will
be in for some exciting
bull action tonight
when, at 9pm, the doors
will burst open and the
first rider of the
toughest and perhaps
meanest bull in Costa
Rica, El Malacrianza
squares off with its
rival El Chirriche.
Both bulls have been
bred in Guanacaste. El
Chichirre is unbeaten in
32 attempts by bull
riders.
Tonight's action is the
highlight of the Zapote
annual event, some have
waited months to see the
outcome of bulls.
In the action will also
take part a number of
other bulls, the Santa
Cruz, El Chochovis, El
Chirbala and El
Basurilla and El
Topoyiyo and El Caprico.
All the bulls in
tonights events come
from Santa Cruz and
Nicoya.
El Malacrianza is known
as the meanest for its
trail of broken and
bruised bull riders,
including the death of
two riders, Juan Carlos
Cubillo in July 2995, in
San Vicente de Nicoya
and Jeison Gómez, in
December 2006, also in
Nicoya.
Malacrianza's
grandfather was another
mean bull, El Piche
Careto, and is known to
have beheaded a horse in
a fair in Los Ángeles de
Nicoya according to
local Guanacaste bull
experts.
The bull is known for
his noted form of
throwing hits head back
and goring riders with
his horns. The bull is
known as "gorgeous
animal" animal for his
physical aspects and
colours.
Unofficially, it is
costing Zapote
organizers ˘1.2 million
colones for the
appearance of
Malacrianza tonight.
Orlando Rodríguez, in
charge of the bull
competition in Zapote,
would not confirm what
is being paid for bull,
but the unofficial
amount is not
exorbitant, as any bull
competition in
Guanacaste would be that
and more to have the
bull at their event.
