Housing Bonds To Be Used
To Reconstruct Homes
Destroyed In Earthquake
The ministra de Salud,
María Luisa Ávila, who
is coordinating the
Consejo del Sector
Social del Gobierno,
said yesterday that the
¢3 billon colones that
was earmarked for "bonos
de vivienda" (housing
bonds) will be used to
help families left
homeless after
Thursday's killer quake.
Ávila explained that
those who lost their
jobs as a result of the
earthquake will also
receive a subsidy and
many may be employed in
the reconstruction of
the area.
The minister added that
an analysis is underway
to transform some of the
area schools, clinics
and containers of the
Instituto Costarricense
de Ferrocarriles (Incofer)
- railway - into homes.
Ávila said that experts
from the Organización
Panamericana de la Salud
(OPS) to organize the
use of the spaces that
will be used those who
lost their homes for the
next five to seven
months.
At reconstruction of the
eight schools and
clinics in the
earthquake area has to
be analyzed and will
depend on the extend of
the damage.
