Panama Recognizes Kosovo
Independence
Panama - Panama Friday
recognized the
Independence of Kosovo,
said the country's
Foreign Minister Samuel
Lewis Navarro.
"Panama has formally
recognized today the
Independence of Kosovo
and it has welcomed the
Republic of Kosovo to
the concert of the
nations," Navarro, also
Panama's first vice
president, told Xinhua.
Navarro made the remarks
at the Palaya Bonita
hotel, near Panama City,
where he is attending a
security summit of the
presidents of Mexico,
Guatemala, Colombia and
Panama on combating
organized crime and drug
trafficking.
The foreign ministry has
delivered a diplomatic
note of the recognition
to Kosovo's charge
d'affaires in
Washington, and Kosovo's
Foreign Minister Skender
Hyseni has expressed "a
lot of gratitude" for
the recognition, Navarro
said.
Kosovo unilaterally
declared its
independence from Serbia
in February.
More than 50 countries,
including the United
States and some European
nations, have recognized
Kosovo's independence.
However, Serbia and
Russia still consider
Kosovo a Serbian
province.
