San Jose -
Heredia Derailed Indefinitely
The San Jose - Heredia train has been
temporarily derailed when the Instituto
Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer)
could not settle a dispute with a land owner
who says he is affected by the railway work
at the edge of his property and the judges
decided to have "peritos" investigate the
complaint.
Following delay after delay and even more
delays, the Heredia train was to supposed to
have begin operating yesterday (Tuesday).
However, the Incofer had to suspend the
start of operations of the train due to a
complaint filed with Tribunal Contencioso
Administrativo as the clean up work by the
Incofer caused damage to a piece of land
adjacent to the tracks in Tibás.
Yesterday afternoon, Miguel Carabaguíaz,
president of the Incofer said an agreement
could not be reached with the company filing
the complaint and the courts issued an order
for an engineering report before it will
rule in the case.
The result is that there will be not train
until the case is resolved or Incofer builds
a costly retaining wall, which may be
determined not necessary following the
engineering report.
Carabaguíaz said that if the court decide
there is no danger, the Heredia train
service will begin immediately.
