Argentina Applying A(H1N1) Measures

Buenos Aires -  Health minister of Argentina, Juan Manzur received his first support for a series of measures to combat the epidemic of A(H1N1) flu through a cooperation commitment from two important branches of the private sector.

The minister, sworn in yesterday and later presenting initiatives entrusted by President Cristina Fernandez held a meeting with business persons of private health institutions and insurance providers that he considered very positive.

The purpose of the agreement is for those sectors to care for flu sufferers and be compensated by State social security.

According to a report of the meeting, participants - Claudio Belocopitt of Swiss Medical; Francisco Díaz of Asociacion de Clinicas y Sanatorios Privados, and Julio Fraomeni, of Galeno - manifested their total willingness to cooperate with the Ministry in this situation.

In the meantime, it was announced that the Entre Rios province decreed a health emergency added to 17 of the 24 provinces of the country.

Argentina is planning a halt of public administration with only a minimum number of guards, and reduction of activities that could contribute to expansion of the virus.

Angel Giano, provincial health minister, indicated that this closure will be for 30 days and added that health is a human right and therefore it is about avoiding a greater transmission of the disease among the population.

In the Federal Capital it was reported that winter vacations of the Supreme Court are moved up to the 6th and extend to the 17th of July and pregnant judges will be sent home.

Among the measures announced yesterday by Minister Manzur are additional funds of about 270 million dollars for the health care network of the nation and 15 days work license for risk groups that include pregnant women, cancer patients and those who have diseases that cause immunosuppression.
