Argentine President Reshuffles
Cabinet
Buenos Aires - The Argentine
government announced Tuesday that President Cristina
Fernandez de Kirchner reshuffled the cabinet,
appointing Anibal Fernandez, currently the interior
minister, as her Cabinet chief.
According to presidential spokesman Alfredo
Scoccimarro, Cabinet chief Sergio Massa would be
replaced by Anibal Fernandez and Amado Boudou, head
of State Pension Agency, would replace Carlos
Fernandez as the economy minister.
Meanwhile, the president also named Julio Alak as
the new justice minister and Diego Bossio as
Boudou's replacement at the State Pension Agency,
while Jorge Coscia was named to head the Culture
Ministry.
In late June, Kirchner's Peronist Party lost control
of both houses of congress in a mid-term
parliamentary election.
Last week, the defeat prompted the resignation of
Health Minister Graciela Ocana and Transport
Minister Ricardo Jaime, while President Fernandez's
husband and former president Nestor Kirchner stepped
down as party leader
According to a poll by Argentine media, 72 percent
of the Argentine electorate think the government
should shake up the cabinet after the parliamentary
election. Analysts said the reshuffle would have
little impact on the current government policies.
