Brazil Cereals Nearly Bowl Over
Brasilia - With an estimated 133 million tons
of cereals, 2008-2009 crops will be the second best
in Brazilian history, revealed Airton Camargo,
information head of the National Company of Supply (CONAB).
This quantity of cereals was only surpassed by 144.1
million tons of the previous crop that marked a
record in Brazilian agricultural productions, an
official told the press.
He specified that 95 percent of the summer harverst
should not provoke many changes in the coming
project and, as a result this estimated 133 million
tons is practically assured although slight
variations could occur in August and September when
the last evaluations are made.
CONAB president told the press last month that he
had anticipated that the current crop would be the
second largest in history. At the time the final
prediction was 134.15 million tons that now suffered
a slight variation.
If this quantity of tons continue foreseen for the
2008-2009 crop it will surpass that obtained during
2006-2007 that reached 131.75 million tons.
According to CONAB figures, in 10 years accumulated
growth of crops is 61.62 percent. |
