Honduran Anti-Coup Rallies Tense
Tegucigalpa -
The National Front organizations against the
coup d'etat in Honduras have confirmed their
decision of continuing Thursday the 19th
consecutive day of marches in defense of the
state of law.
Union, rural, student, and women's
organizations, as well as other popular
alliances will rally on the road that joins
the capital with the nation's northern zone
and the Caribbean coast.
Juan Barahona, one of the Front's main
leaders, told Prensa Latina in a phone call
that people will carry out similar actions
in other parts of the country.
Members of the Continental Social Alliance
from the other side of the borders with
Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua stated
that they will block borders to the country
in solidarity with the Honduran people.
The de facto government ruling Honduras
re-established Wednesday night the curfew,
in force in the country since the coup
d'Etat starting June 28 through July 12.
Anti-riot police repressed Wednesday a group
of women taking part in a demonstration
against the coup in front of a government
institution, in rejection of the officials
appointed by the de facto government.
The Student Front's members occupied minutes
before the higher education center, as part
of unitary actions against the coup, and in
favor of democratic legality in the nation. |
