Colombia Finance Minister: Signs Economy Near Bottom
Bogota (Dow Jones)--Colombian Finance Minister Oscar
Ivan Zuluaga said Friday there are signs the
country's economy is approaching a bottom.
He said recent surveys are showing businessmen's
expectations are improving, which may mean
production is in a process of rebounding.
Zuluaga expects the economic growth in the second
half of the year will be positive.
Colombia's gross domestic product contracted 0.7% in
the fourth quarter. Analysts and officials, such as
central bank chief Jose Dario Uribe, expect the
contraction continued in the first quarter.
The Finance Ministry expects GDP growth to be
between 0.5% and 1.5% this year.
