Bolivia-Paraguay Strong Relations
Asuncion - President of Bolivia Evo Morales said on
Friday that the Chaco War (1932-1935) was devised to
serve the interests of the empire.
Morales, who is in Paraguay attending commemorations
of the 74th anniversary of the end of the said
conflict, said thirst for Chaco oil by the United
States and Britain led thousands of Paraguayans and
Bolivians into unfair clashes. In his speech in the
town of Mariscal Estigarribia, 342 miles northwest
of Asuncion, Morales said that "our people, our
armed forces were forced to defend transnational
interests of the empires who came to plunder our
natural resources."
Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo extolled the good
relations existing between Paraguay and Bolivia and
warned that "sovereignty will not be threatened by
foreign transnational forces or third countries."
