El Salvador on Yellow Alert for Flu
San Salvador - The National Health
System in El Salvador decreed a yellow alert
due to an increased number of people
infected with the human A(H1N1) influenza
virus.
Minister of the sector Maria Isabel
Rodriquez said the decision was made in view
of the rapid propagation of the flu and the
need to increase preventive actions
throughout the country.
Increasing numbers of people go to public
hospitals with symptoms of being infected,
while the number of confirmed cases rose to
160, with more than 50 suspected.
Rodriguez informed that the yellow alert
would increase surveillance for detecting
patiens with influenza symptoms and would
call people with a positive diagnosis to
remain in their homes to prevent more
contagion.
Also included in the specific measures is
the protection of doctors, nurses and other
health workers in direct contact with the
population in consultations set up to assist
people suspected of being infected with
A(H1N1) virus.
Among precaution measures is the closing of
some schools. To date, 12 public and private
schools suspended classes. |
