Police Find Tunnels and Underground Bunker
That Stored Cocaine Shipped In Frozen Sharks
A property with eight luxury homes and
swimming pool in Purruja de Golfito was more
than just a residential compound, but also a
place for storing and distributing illegal
drugs, as police found a series of tunnels
and an underground storage area where up to
five tons of cocaine could be stored.
Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ)
agents raided the property that belonged
Costa Rican Sigifredo
Ceciliano, who was detained earlier in the
day at the Juan Santamaria (San Jose)
international airport, leaving Costa Rica,
following the seizure of some 900 tons of
cocaine hidden in frozen shark in Mexico
earlier this week.
Ceciliano who admitted on Friday to selling
the shark to a Mexican national who has gone
missing, is believed to be the leader of the
group.
Authorities believe the illicit drugs came
in by water, loaded off boats onto the 15
hectare property and then stored in the
bunkers, for distribution to Central America
and North America destinations.
The bunker is also believed to have also
housed the 320 Kilos of cocaine stolen from
the hands of Judicial officials from the
Tribunales de Golfito last March 26, when a
group of commando style men stormed the
poorly secured court house and made off with
the haul that is also believed to have
belonged to Ceciliano and his associates.
It was about 2pm on Saturday when members of
the special police unit called the Servicio
Policial de Intervención Inmediata (SPII)
and agents of the drug enforcement of the
OIJ, raided the property with the objective
of detaining three Mexicans suspected of
drug trafficking.
However, authorities found a lonely security
guard, empty houses and an empty underground
storage bunker. |
