Bolivians Seek Horizontal Socialism
Cochabamba, Bolivia - President of Bolivia Evo Morales
urged national and local leaders of the Movement
towards Socialism (MAS) to draft a new government
program to serve the people'' interests.
"I would say that we fulfilled the one we drafted in
2005, of course, except for the industrialization
issue, which takes more time," said MAS leader
Morales during the organization's general assembly,
held on Friday in Cochabamba.
He said that with the three-years-and-a-half
experience at the helm of government and with the
backing of social movements, MAS will be able to
construct a lasting program to benefit the majority.
"The MAS great advantage is its horizontal relation
with these organizations bearing an ideological
basis to serve the people and the homeland over any
regional interest or individual political ambition,"
said Morales.
"Now, we must work to come to the next meeting with
a new draft program that contributes to consolidate
the unity of the MAS and the social movements, to
form a strong political power," said Morales.
The governing MAS is shaping its strategies for
elections, scheduled for December 6.
