Kirchner Favorite for Elections
Buenos
Aires - The Frente Justicialista para
la Victoria headed by ex President Nestor Kirchner
is seen today by several surveys as possible winner
in Buenos Aires parliament elections slated for next
Sunday, June 28.
Only one week before over 10 million voters go to
the polls in the province of Buenos Aires, the
Center of Studies of Public Opinion (CEOP) expects
Kirchner to win with a lead of seven points.
The former president and his ticket companion,
Buenos Aires governor Daniel Scioli, have a 34.6
percent of vote intention and a firm tendency to
keep increasing, indicated the CEOP.
According to the survey, whose results were reported
by news agency Telam, Union-PRO, which promotes the
candidates Francisco de Narvaez and Felipe Solá,
should come in second with a 27.1 percent.
Third in vote intention appears, with 15.5
percentage points, the Acuerdo Civico y Social,
whose leading candidates are Margarita Stolbizer and
Ricardo Alfonso, who have lost ground over the last
month.
According to CEOP, the Frente Justicialista para la
Victoria has a lead of about nine percentage points
in the Buenos Aires area, where about 67 percent of
the provincial register lives.
For its part, consulting firm Analogias gives the
leading position to the Kirchner candidates with 57
points, five more than De Narvaez and 17 percent
over Stolbizer.
Another polling firm, Ibarometro, said there is no
parity between the Frente Justicialista para la
Victoria and Union-PRO, "but a very important
difference in favor of the official formula."
Kirchner keeps a lead in vote intention in the
province of Buenos Aires since the first estimates
were made at the middle of May.
At that time, six survey firms gave Kirchner a lead
between 2.6 and 9.8 percent over its closest rivals,
De Narvaez and Stolbizer.
On June 15, the consulting firm Equis anticipated
that Kirchnerism would obtain the highest percentage
of votes throughout the country (about 35.1
percent), although this would be below the
intermédiate elections of 2005 (38.7).
In the parliament elections of June 28, 27 million
790 thousand 803 citizens will be able to vote to
elect 127 national deputies and 24 senators to renew
half and one third of each chamber, respectively. |
