INVU President Quits After Drunk Driving
Incident
Jorge Arturo Sánchez Zúñiga resigned on
Monday as the president of the Instituto
Nacional de Vivienda y Urbanismo (INVU).
The resignation was contained in a two
paragraph letter to Costa Rican president,
Óscar Arias Sánchez, announcing his
immediate resignation.
"Due to personal situations that you are
aware have led me to this personal decision
in order to institutionalize the
circumstances", said Sanchez in the note.
Jorge Arturo Sánchez was found driving under
the influence of alcohol last Friday night
in Escazú, when he blew 2.42 on a roadside
breathalyzer, while driving a government
vehicle, that was confiscated by traffic
officials.
Sánchez now faces charges that could see him
spending time behind bars and losing his
drivers license under the tough regulations
of the new Ley de Tránsito that went into
effect last December 23.
Sánchez, by way of the press office of the
INVU, said he would not be making any
comment to the press on the matter.
